The session began with bowing and a round of producing the 7 notes clearly. Then Mr. Shirish went on to start with the Alankar – about 25 different patterns of playing the 7 notes. He played to me all of them, at a stretch, with the most impressive of all paces; and I stared at him, awestruck, in that jaw-dropping moment. I was going to play that??? Good heavens! Although I was determined about learning this beautiful instrument, that moment further strengthened my determination. It was all fun until I faced the next big challenge – sitting in that posture for a long time! My legs started paining after some time, Mr. Shrish said that I must get used to it since sitting at one place for a long time is vital for learning any instrument. Even my arms ached after playing the chords and bowing for about an hour. He told me only 5 of the Alankars today but that was enough exhaust me. He insisted that I should practice more but since I did not own a violin I could only practice during the class. He then, finished the class by playing a beautiful Marathi folk song himself, and that moment was tranquilising, it removed all that pain and refilled my body with a trillion quanta of energy. I am so eager to attend the class next week!
